Be positive in a crisis

To all who wholeheartedly read the Butler Eagle Letters to the Editor, may you truly take everything in your lives and surroundings a good look.

What is happening out there right now during the pandemic known as COVID-19!?

This time, right now, this very minute, is a good time to sit back and reflect on your life and what you have, who you can become, appreciate your families, children, parents and friends.

You all are given time, each and every morning you wake, to deal with the “new norm” until this passes and believe me, no matter how dismal our current situation or outlook, rest assured, this too shall pass.

You are given the “time” to make the most of it, everything around you, everyone around you.

When the news is all doom and gloom, as it has been since the outbreak, it’s very difficult for even the most optimistic to stay positive.

Yes, we need to take this virus seriously; it is causing severe illness, death and for certain, drastic long-term changes in how we live, how we school, how we work but this all could be an eye opening.

It is easy to be focused on calamities because they seem to be the only topics covered on local and national news. But, remember, there are things you can do to overcome the negative.

For every negative, there is a positive.

Take this time to reflect, reconnect with a family member, a friend!

Finish those projects around that house that you have been putting off.

Spend quality time with your significant other, your children. Cook a meal, sit down together and talk of the day.

Be there for others, some needing more than others.

Take long walks, exercise, keep a positive mental attitude. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Limit TV news intake, watch a funny video, play games, look after your neighbors, have your children draw pictures of things they are doing while off from school, send them to a senior home, fire department, police department with words of appreciation.

Take advantage of found time and practice random acts of kindness.

This is your time to shine.

This is the time to support your local businesses, restaurant take outs. Time for everyone to stick together, work together setting a good example.

Be rid of the negative thoughts that everything is coming to an end, that there will be looting, shootings …. this does not help moving forward because if you feel this way, you cannot move forward.

Help others with positivity if they are having it worse than you are. Encouragement ....

Blessed are the ones who see beauty around them, where some see nothing.

Smile, laugh, and eat chocolate!
