SR's Pilosi joins PIAA mat meet

Slippery Rock senior wrestler Vito Pilosi qualified for the upcoming Class 2A state tournament by finishing fourth in the 182-pound bracket at the Northwest Regional, which concluded Saturday at Sharon High School.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Pilosi earned a 4-2 decision over Brookville's Elliot Park in the quarterfinals.

A 6-3 loss to Kane's Cameron Whisner dropped Pilosi to the consolation bracket, but he punched his ticket to states there by defeating Johnsonburg's Tyler Watts, 3-2.

In the bout for third place, Ethan Finch of Sheffield defeated Pilosi, 3-2.

The top four finishers head to the PIAA event, which begins Thursday in Hershey.

SwimmingGracie Olshanski, a freshman at Slippery Rock, earned a medal by placing fourth in the girls 50-yard freestyle at the District 10 Class 2A championship meet, held Friday and Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Ohio.Olshanski's time of 25.21 seconds also earned her a spot in this month's state championship meet.

Indoor TrackButler sophomore Tristan McGarrah placed seventh in the pole vault, earning a medal at the state indoor meet at Penn State University.His vault was a personal-best 14 feet, 6 inches.The Golden Tornado girls 4x200 and 4x400 relays “had their best performances of the indoor season, just missing medals in both events by less than two seconds,” Butler coach John Williams said. “This bodes well as we transition to the outdoor season.”Butler's other top finishes follow:
