SCOUT NEWS

Three Knoch High School seniors and members of Boy Scout Troop 58 in Valencia recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. They are, from left, Michael Kohl, Justin Tristani, and Cole Travis.

Two members of Boy Scout Troop 16 in Butler achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at a joint Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

Zachary Doerr and Diesel Losch, both of Butler, gained the rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony presided over jointly by the boys’ prior Scoutmaster Schon Slagle and current Scoutmaster Ed Smith.

Judge Thomas Doerr (also an Eagle Scout) administered the Eagle Oath to his son, Zach. Roy Baker, chartered organization representative and troop scoutmaster for many years, administered the Eagle Oath to Diesel. Terry Vossler, Troop chairman, administered the Eagle Scout Challenge to both. The Scouts were then presented with their Eagle Scout pins by their mothers, Lori Doerr and Mary Jo Losch.

Zach and Diesel received numerous citations, each personally presented by the following: Congressman Mike Kelly, R-16th; state Sen. Scott Hutchinson, R-21st; state Rep. Marci Mustello, R-11th (Diesel’s aunt and godmother); Butler County Commissioners Leslie Osche, Kim Geyer and Kevin Boozel; Sheriff Mike Slupe; Butler Township Commissioner Sam Zurzolo on behalf of the Marine Corps; and Bill McNutt and Don Paserba on behalf of the American Legion.

In addition, Cantor Michal Gray-Schaffer of Congregation B’nai Abraham provided the invocation, and Deacon Mitch Natali of the Butler Area Catholic Parishes provided the benediction as well as an additional citation from the Knights of Columbus to Diesel.

Zach, 18, is also a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Zach’s Eagle Scout project was to plant 11 butterfly bushes in a local cemetery, one in honor of each victim of the Tree of Life shooting, along with a plaque noting that the bushes are in their honor. Zach is a senior at Butler High School.

Diesel, 17, is also a member of the Order of the Arrow.

For his Eagle Project, he built a handicap-accessible, 33-inch raised flower and vegetable garden at Concordia Orchards in Butler. He is a junior at St. Joseph High School.

Diesel is the son of Mary Jo Losch and the late Ralph Losch. Diesel’s father was also an Eagle Scout, and his father was very involved in the program until his passing.
