Butler bowlers clinch section

Chris Huff rolled a 641 series — including games of 235 and 257 — in leading the Butler boys bowling team to a 5-2 win over North Allegheny Wednesday at Perry Park Lanes.The victory clinched the WPIBL North Section title for the Golden Tornado (10-0). Rocco Rice added a 226-605 while Nathan Kriess roll a 214 and Brock Hepler a 211.

The Tornado girls also polished off a 10-0 regular season with a 7-0 triumph over the Tigers. Harley Kriess rolled a 234-630, Reegan Malis a 205-554 and Madison Weiland a 202-532.

Both Butler teams move on to the WPIBL Team Championships next week. As section champs, they are both guaranteed spots in the Pennsylvania Western Regional Championships in March.

In other action:Issaic Spencer and Julia Cummings rolled 600-plus series for Freeport's boys and girls teams, respectively, as the Yellowjackets topped St. Joseph's.Spencer's 613 series featured games of 220 and 218 as Freeport's boys claimed a 7-0 decision. Ashton Guay bowled a 251 game and a 574 series, Mark Livingston a 208-563 and Blake Olson a 201-548.Cummings paced the girls' 5-2 win with a 645 series that featured games of 203, 235 and 207. Amber Cepec added a 181-513.

WrestlingFive Butler wrestlers scored pins Wednesday night as the Golden Tornado cruised past Meadville, 66-12, in their final home match of the season.Cooper Baxter scored a 4-2 overtime decision at 170 pounds over Meadville's Trent Tidball, who entered the night with a 28-1 record.
