Former commissioner leaves legacy of service

Butler county commissioner Dale Pinkerton gets sworn in to office at the Butler County courthouse courtroom one in Butler on Tuesday January 3, 2012.

From colorful clown to county commissioner, Dale Pinkerton's dedication and service to the people of Butler County can only be described as “faaaantastic.”

Pinkerton, 79, died on Sunday night at his home.

He was elected as a county commissioner in 2007 and re-elected in 2011, serving from 2008 through 2015.

During Pinkerton's tenure as commissioner, the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was sold to a private operator and construction began on the new government center annex that included a new parking garage.

A member of the Butler Rotary since 1981, a past president and a district governor, Pinkerton in 1992 founded the county's annual Rotary Turkey Round Up.

Pinkerton was also a major fundraiser for the Butler Public Library, the Butler County Family YMCA, Butler Citizens for Decency and the Boy Scouts of America, along with being a member of many other organizations.

But Pinkerton wasn't all business.

Many remember Pinky the Clown zooming down Main Street in a miniature car, delighting parade-goers as a Syria Shriner, an organization he was a member of for 35 years.

Pinkerton is survived by his wife, Millie, and daughters, Lori Pinkerton-Foust and Lisa Goldman and families.

Listing Pinkerton's service to the county he adored is such a long list we are still compiling it all to share with readers in the full article that will appear in Tuesday's edition of the Butler Eagle.
