BC3 gets state grant for campus safety

Butler County Community College received nearly $10,000 from the state’s “It’s On Us” program aimed at combating sexual assault and harassment on college campuses.

BC3 received $9,850 from $1 million in grants that Gov. Tom Wolf distributed to 36 colleges and universities, according to Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera.

Wolf said the program was the first of its kind in the country when it was established four years ago, and $4 million in grants has been distributed since then. Slippery Rock University has received grants from the same program.

Colleges and universities use the grants to create programs, including everything from campuswide training for students, faculty and staff to institutional campaigns to raise awareness of the reporting process and the resources available to survivors of sexual violence.

The 2019-2020 It’s On Us recipients include public and private institutions in every corner of the state. The colleges and universities enroll a total of nearly 250,000 students. Of those students, more than 62,000 live on campus.
