Rock earns hoop sweep

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s basketball teams won a pair of nail-biters over Millersville Wednesday night at Morrow Field House.

Donovan Walker stuck back an offensive rebound at the buzzer to give The Rock men an 81-80 victory. Millersville (8-8, 5-5) had a 66-46 lead with 11:33 to play before SRU (8-8, 4-6) went on a 23-0 run.

The Rock women staved off a late Millersville comeback to score a 77-75 win Wednesday.

Will Robinson Jr. scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for SRU in the men’s game. Walker added 10 points.

SRU’s women (4-12, 2-8) led by as many as 13 in the first half before Millersville (5-10, 2-8) chipped away and led by a point on three separate occasions in the fourth quarter.

Brooke Hinderliter scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds to go with three assists for The Rock. Madison Johnson had 23 points.

Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson had eight points while Karington Ketterer had seven rebounds.

Both SRU teams travel to Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon.
