Don't have to be scientist to detect warming

It is very disappointing that the writer of this letter (Climate Science Has Two Sides, Dec. 18) who apparently taught science in school, has so little understanding of science.

The writer is correct that money is driving the climate debate, but this is a political debate, not a scientific one, and the vast majority of that money is coming from the fossil fuel industry.

The scientific consensus on climate change is evidence-based, not “consensus-based.” A survey found that over 97 percent of published scientific papers, i.e. “evidence,” supported that: a) the earth is warming, and b) that human activity is responsible for this warming.

Indeed, you don’t need to be a scientist to see that the world is getting warmer, you just have to stick your head out the window. The climate science deniers may want to keep sticking their heads in the sand, but for the rest of us, the time to act is now.
