TV news networks should put politics aside, America first

Why doesn’t the media get it? What does it take for some people to realize that the United States of America is more important than political positions?

For at least a few minutes, Americans again were given a small shot of concern over what antics would be directed toward the United States as Iran fired missiles at two locations with the intent to harm U.S. military personnel on Tuesday night.

We immediately started watching The Associated Press feed of photographs and stories as well as the two large TV networks, which claim to be independent and impartial.

OK, no one believes either CNN or Fox is independent or impartial any more than the New England Patriots are rule abiding. But they should be.

The news across the night was disturbing. One channel made it appear nearly a remake of the Gulf War, and the other made it out to be just another day in paradise. I will let you guess which network acted each way.

What both sides missed was the rallying cry for Americanism. Both get so wrapped up in making sure everyone knows the shortcomings of the political party they blindly support that they often fail to tell us anything positive about their own coverage.

That should sound familiar as it is how politics operates across our country, and if we aren’t careful even local politics gets infected by the partisan disease. If in no other matter, when anyone attacks Americans or American interests our leadership at every level should find common positions that support our troops and our people.

Don’t point fingers and try to blame the other side of the aisle for the situation. For a change, put America first and bury your desire to dominate politics to allow only your way of thinking. Put America first.
