Schweikart 90th birthday

Eugenia “Jean” Schweikart of Cabot will celebrate her 90th birthday with a family dinner and a card shower. For those wishing to honor her with a card or a shared memory, her address is: 148 Marwood Road, Apt. 1124, Cabot, Pa. 16023.

The former Eugenia Sternik was born Dec. 27, 1929, in New Jersey. She graduated from The College of St. Elizabeth with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1951.

She married William A. Schweikart Sept. 4, 1954. He passed away Aug. 3, 1964.

She worked in the microbiology laboratory at Merck Pharmaceutical Co. and retired as the laboratory coordinator for the biology department of Union College in New Jersey in 1991. Following her retirement, she moved to Butler to be near her family, and she recently relocated to Cabot.

Jean has one daughter, Dr. Kathy Schweikart, and a son-in-law, Dr. Charles Spingola both of Butler. She has three granddaughters, Maggie Spingola Fox of Zelienople, Elizabeth Spingola of Blacksburg, Va., and Kathryn Spingola of Chicago.

Jean is an accomplished artist primarily as a china porcelain painter and also works in oil and watercolor media. She is a talented seamstress, knitter and embroiderer.

She enjoys membership in the Butler Literary Society, plays mahjong with two local groups, including the Maridon Museum and is a superb gardener, specializing in African violets.

A week does not go by when she does not completely finish the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle.

Jean is devoted member of the Benedictine Oblates and is committed to her Catholic faith as an active member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian.
