SRU renames office in recognition of bank

Slippery Rock University is renaming the Office of Career Education and Development as the First National Bank Office of Career Education and Development for a period of 10 years from 2020 through 2029.

The renaming was approved by SRU’s council of trustees on Friday in recognition of FNB’s gift to the university of a branch office at 124 S. Main St. in Harrisville, which closed in May 2018, and seven adjacent parcels of land.

The property, valued at $175,000, was gifted to the SRU Foundation, which will lease it to the university. The university plans to use the property to develop academic facilities.

The foundation already leases the former Har-Mer Elementary School to the university, which uses the building for its physician assistant and occupational therapy graduate programs.

“The foundation is here to support the priorities of SRU, and when the university has an opportunity like this come along, we can step in and make sure the opportunity is realized,” said Edward Bucha, foundation executive director. “This agreement continues to solidify the great relationships the university has with FNB and the Harrisville community.”
