The TMG Big band, formerly known as the Trinity Jazz Orchestra, will be in concert at 7 p.m. Monday at First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St.

The Sounds of Christmas featuring the TMG Big Band and vocalist Andrew Karns will present favorite holiday songs.

The show will touch on many of the artists and groups that defined the big band era.

Karns is a vocalist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Western Pennsylvania.

He has been singing and playing saxophone since childhood with a particular interest in his father's big band record collection.

The TMG Big Band was founded in 2003. The group is comprised of both music educators and other professional musicians playing classics by Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Doc Severinson.

There is no admission fee but a free will offering will be gratefully accepted.

Bands are scheduled to play the last Saturday of each month at the Butler Art Center.Playing at this Saturday Night Special event Dec. 28 will be:- Trevolta, of Saxonburg, is made up of three friends under age 18 who have been inspired by KISS, Queen, YES and Pink Floyd.- The Shed Band, from the Freeport/Elderton area, has four members all under 21 who play classic rock.- End of Thought, from Beaver, has five band member under 20. They play a combination of grunge, alternative, and punk rock.- Better Think Twice from New Brighton, all younger than 25, will be playing a combination of covers and originals in the classic/modern/alternative rock styles.Concerts are also scheduled for Jan. 25, Feb. 29 and March 28.The Art Center is at 344 S. Main St.

PITTSBURGH — Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens offers free-with-admission activities and events for younger guests, set against the backdrop of the Holiday Magic! Winter Flower Show and Light Garden.On select dates and times through Dec. 23, guests can snap a photo with old Kris Kringle at Santa Visits.Guests looking for an outing for the kids during winter break can attend Family Fun Days, running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily from Dec. 26 to 30.And Phipps will host a New Year's Eve Family Celebration with live music, face painting, a photo booth, crafts and games from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 31.Holiday Magic! Winter Flower Show runs through Jan. 12 between 9:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. daily and 5 to 11 p.m. for the Winter Light Garden.Phipps will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 24 and remain closed all day Dec. 25.For more information, visit phipps.conservatory.org.
