Philharmonic offers holiday show

The Pittsburgh Philharmonic is set to perform the musical fairy tales of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and Tchaikovsky's iconic “Nutcracker Suite” Saturday at Butler County Community College's Succop Theater.

The 90-minute concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Philharmonic's “Winter Wonderland” and Holiday Caroling Spectacular will also include Vaughan Williams' “Fantasia on Greensleeves,” Respighi's “Three Botticelli Pictures” and, after a 15-minute intermission, David Willcocks' renditions of “God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Unto Us Is Born a Son,” “The First Nowell” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”

The evening will also include Handel's “Hallelujah Chorus!” from “Messiah,” arranged by Mozart.

And Santa Claus will also visit Succop Theater during the symphony's performance.

Guests who take a new toy for Toys for Tots will receive a free ticket to an upcoming show.

Tickets for the holiday concert are $15 for general admission, $13 for senior citizens and $10 for students, and can be purchased online at bc3.edu/theater, by calling 724-284-8505.

The Philharmonic will also perform concerts at the Succop Theater on March 21 and May 16.
