Students dance in 'Nutcracker'

Students, including seven from Butler County, are presenting “The Nutcracker” through Sunday at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center.

MIDLAND, Beaver County — Seven students from Butler County are dancing in “The Nutcracker” Thursday through Sunday.

The county students in the ballet at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center include Alexa DeJeet and Tricia Dietrick, both of Cranberry Township, as dolls; Zach Aaron of Cranberry as Fritz’s friend and a Mouse; Katy Coulson of Cranberry as a Mouse and a Flower; Kierstin Hennessy of Mars as a Snowflake and a Flower; Bethany Kershaw of Cranberry as part of the Tea Dance and a Flower; and Madison Mann of Mars at Clara’s friend and the Pastry Chef.

Now in its 13th year at Lincoln Park, the beloved classic is being presented in five shows.

First performed in 1892, “The Nutcracker” is based on a short story by E.T.A. Hoffman’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.”

The ballet follows the journey of a young girl, Clara, into a magical land where a Nutcracker Prince battles against a Mouse King with seven heads. Clara’s journey is shared with waltzing snowflakes, enchanted toys, and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

New roles making a debut this year include American Ribbon Candy opening Act II with the Sugar Plum Fairy, and in the Party Scene, which usually has a male doll, there will have three female dolls.

Tickets are available at www.lincolnparkarts.org/events, or by calling 724-576-4644.
