NEW YORK — Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was named Time's “person of the year” Wednesday, becoming at age 16 the youngest person to whom the U.S. magazine has given the title.
Thunberg emerged as the face of the youth climate movement after she started skipping school once a week to protest outside her country's parliament. In the past year and a half, she has drawn large crowds at international conferences and demonstrations outside Sweden.
Some have welcomed Thunberg's environmental activism, including her speeches challenging world leaders to do more to stop global warming. But others have criticized the teenager's sometimes combative tone.
After months of wrangling, infighting and uncertainty, a controversial $45 million settlement was reached between Harvey Weinstein, his former film studio's board and several women who have accused the disgraced movie mogul of sexual misconduct, according to attorneys involved in the negotiations.A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge in Delaware still must formally approve a deal that would bring an end to one chapter of the scandal that rocked the entertainment industry, decimated the Weinstein Co. and propelled MeToo into a global movement.The tentative settlement does not, however, resolve a separate criminal case against Weinstein in New York over multiple accusations of sexual assault. That criminal case will go to trial next month.

Already one of the world's most popular and compelling ballerinas, in recent seasons she has stretched herself to experiment with the works of Martha Graham, Merce Cunnigham and Duncan. She has even tried musical comedy, speaking and singing onstage for the first time.Most ballerinas in their prime stick to ballet, and only venture into contemporary dance when the rigors of ballet become too challenging later in their careers.
