UPDATE: Portion of Route 38 in Washington Twp. now open to traffic following crash
WASHINGTON TWP - A portion of Route 38 in Washington Township is closed following a head-on crash between a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle this morning.
Two people, both believed to be the drivers, were injured in the wreck about approximately 1.5 miles south of North Washington about 6:45 a.m.
Both injuries were believed to be minor. Each person was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital — one by ambulance and the other by private vehicle.
Authorities said the collision may have happened when one of the drivers fell asleep at the wheel. Road conditions and weather were not believed to be factors in the accident.
State police are investigating, but an accident report was not immediately available.
The road is closed between the village of North Washington and Bruin Road as emergency crews wait for tow trucks to remove the vehicles.
West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department is at the scene.
