Man shoots self while reloading gun in dairy parking lot

FORWARD TWP — A man accidentally shot himself in the leg late Wednesday night while attempting to load a pistol in the parking lot at Marburger Dairy in the township, authorities said.

The 22-year-old West Sunbury man, who is an employee at the dairy, was taken by Quality EMS ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with injuries that authorities described as “non life threatening,” according to state police.

Police said the man was in the driver's seat of a car around 11:55 p.m. when he shot himself in the upper left thigh while loading a round in his .40-caliber pistol in the parking lot on the 1500 block of Mars Evans City Road. The bullet passed through his leg, the investigating trooper said.

“No charges will be filed due to the accidental nature of the incident,” according to a police report.
