Man gets prison in city shooting

A Brackenridge man will go to state prison for shooting a Philadelphia man to death two years ago at a Wick Street apartment complex.

David J. “Dae Dae” Franklin, 22, pleaded guilty in September to third-degree homicide. He admitted to killing Rashaan Khalil “Smoke” Adams on March 16, 2017, in the city.

County Judge William Shaffer sentenced Franklin Wednesday to 15 to 30 years in state prison. He must also pay $3,312 in restitution to the victim's compensation fund.

Investigators said the shooting was the result of an argument between Franklin and Adams.

Franklin accused Adams of stealing $900 from him.

An autopsy determined that Adams was shot three times — once in the chest and twice in the head.

Franklin was given 895 days of credit for time he already served in Butler County Prison.

At the time he pleaded guilty, Franklin's lawyer, William Difenderfer, asked Shaffer to accept the plea deal, saying the victim's family in the case agreed to it.

Franklin declined to comment during his sentencing.
