New dog-friendly area to open in Cranberry

CRANBERRY TWP — Dog owners now have a third public area to consider when deciding where to take their pup on a walk.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, complete with refreshments and a following “pack walk,” will mark the opening of a new dog-friendly area at the North Boundary disc golf course and nature trail areas.

Only leashed dogs will be permitted, and volunteer ambassadors will roam at peak hours to let owners know of new rules.

The dog area is the result of resident suggestions at the township’s K-9 Connections Committee meetings.

“The goal was to find a balance, so that everyone can use the park, while also maintaining areas where dogs are not permitted,” said Pete Geis, director of parks and recreation. “Opening these new areas up to dogs serves to enhance our park, with new residents encouraged to take advantage of the trail system.”
