Write-in votes tallied; many races resolved

Several posts filled in process

The Butler County Bureau of Elections recently counted write-in votes from the Nov. 5 election, resolving many borough and township races that no candidates entered.

Write-in results do not include vote tallies or the political parties of the candidates.

In Chicora, while no one appeared on the ballot for three four-year positions on borough council, voters cast 407 write-in votes.The bureau declared current council members Daryl Craig, James Fallacker and David Clingensmith as the write-in winners of the three council positions, according to posted results.

In Slippery Rock Area School District, no one appeared on the ballot for one of two four-year director's positions representing Region 3, but 63 write-in votes were cast.Leslie Colosimo was declared the write-in winner. Republican candidate Theresa Pearce appeared on the ballot and won the other seat.

The ballot in Petrolia was blank for a two-year term as mayor, two four-year seats on borough council and three two-year council seats. Residents of the northern Butler County town, with a population of about 200, cast a total of 19 write-in votes in all three races.Harry Bolts was declared write-in winner for mayor, and Walter Barney and Cheryl Osmer won the two four-year council positions.Colleen Farren and Robin McGinnis won two of the two-year positions and a tie was declared between Bud Anthony Sr., Walter Barney, Cinda Six and Pam Osmer for the third two-year seat.That was one of several counts resulting in ties that will be settled during a drawing of lots being held in the bureau office at 9 a.m. Nov. 22.

In Portersville, no one appeared on the ballot for a two-year term as mayor, four four-year council seats and one two-year council seat, but 27 write-in votes were cast.The bureau declared Brian Bailey as the write-in winner for mayor; David Marcy Janik, Dana Opp and Bailey won the four-year council seats and Kurtis McClymond and James Bish tied for the fourth position.Bish, McClymond and Opp tied in the race for the two-year position.

In Evans City, Brad Rubinosky was declared the write-in winner of one of two four-year positions on borough council. Republican candidate Norman Nelson appeared on the ballot and won the other seat with 282 votes. The bureau reported 185 write-in votes were cast.

In Cherry Valley, no one appeared on the ballot for two four-year positions and two two-year positions on borough council, but 17 write-in votes were cast.Michael Bagdes-Canning and Brian Hilliard won the four-year seats, according to the bureau. Clay Kohlmeyer won one of the two-year seats and a tie was declared between Bagdes-Canning and Hilliard for the second seat.

In Clearfield Township, a tie was declared between Mark Focht and Henry McNutt for a six-year term as township supervisor.Brian Hans was declared the winner of a six-year term as supervisor in Oakland Township,In Bruin, Patrick Snow was declared as winner of a four-year and a two-year seat on borough council. Republican candidate Kevin P. Smith appeared on the ballot and won one of the other four-year seats, but no one sought the third vacant council seat.A tie was declared between Lorena Adams and Allan Wirtz for a two-year term as mayor of Callery.Earl Everetts was declared the winner of a two-year term as mayor of Fairview Borough.In Valencia, Brian Himmelstein and Robert Vigue were declared winners of two four-year positions on borough council.Cheryl McMurray was declared the winner of a four-year seat on West Liberty Borough council. Candidates appeared on the ballot for two other seats and won.In West Sunbury, Sue Carothers, Greg Ferdinandson and Edwin Young were declared winners of three four-year seats on borough council.
