JACKSON TWP - Icy road Wednesday morning led to a three-vehicle crash involving a cement truck that closed both lanes of Route 19 for nearly two hours.

The southbound lane of Route 19 just opened to traffic. PennDOT is asking drivers to avoid Route 19 northbound in Jackson Township.

According to police, at about 9 a.m., a northbound vehicle on Route 19 lost control on the ice near Lutz Road and hit a southbound car.

A southbound cement truck tried to avoid the collision, but ended up hitting the northbound car and then flipped over.

Harmony Fire District had to cut one person out of the northbound vehicle.

"If there had been a passenger in the red car, it would have been fatal. It looks worse than it was," said Sgt. Tim Amrhein with the Jackson Township Police Department.

The drivers of the northbound vehicle and the cement truck were both transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Because of the weight of the cement truck, it will take a while to clear the scene, according to authorities.

PennDOT said the road is closed starting at the intersection with Lindsay Road and ending at the on ramp from Interstate 79 due to the crash. The accident is expected to be cleared and roadway re-opened at approximately noon today.
