NC volleyball, soccer reach PIAA semifinal

North Catholic's girls volleyball team rolled into the Class 2A state semifinals with a very impressive effort Saturday afternoon.

The Trojanettes dispatched defending state champion Bald Eagle with a 3-1 quarterfinal decision at Forest Hills High School.

North claimed the win by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-20.

“The first game was a grind, with big swings on both sides,” said North coach Amanda Fetter. “Bald Eagle is a well-rounded team, but our kids kept the ball in play and we served very well.”

Senior outside hitter Dominique Felix tallied 10 kills for the Trojanettes (22-1), who now get a shot at redemption in Tuesday's semifinal against Freeport, which defeated North in the WPIAL final Nov. 2.

“We're excited that we're still in it,” said Fetter. “Our first two state matches were far away and we're excited about being close to home.”
