Police: Gunman robs elderly shoppers leaving Grove City outlet mall

SPRINGFIELD TWP, Mercer County — An armed robber stole bags of merchandise from three elderly women leaving the Premium Outlets shopping mall Sunday evening, state police said. No injuries were reported.

Investigators said the victims, all from Ontario, Canada, were walking from the mall to a nearby Marriott Hotel just south of Route 208 in Springfield Township between 7:10 and 7:15 p.m. when they were accosted by the unknown suspect.

Police described the robber as a white man, about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a stocky build. He was wearing a black knit pullover cap and dark clothing.

The scene of the crime, according to a police report, was described as a “dark area along the alleyway” between the mall and hotel.

The suspect, brandishing a handgun, walked up from behind the women, who had been staying at the hotel for several days, and shouted at them, “Give me all of your bags,” police said.

The victims told police that the man was holding the semiautomatic pistol in his left hand.

He took the unspecified property and ran toward an apparent getaway car parked near the entrance to the alley in the mall parking lot. The car was described as black or dark colored.

Police said they are reviewing surveillance video obtained from surrounding businesses as part of their ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 724-662-6162.
