I'm an embarrassment to all mascot birds who make high school football predictions.

I went 6-5 last week to fall to 61-22 on the season — one of my worst since I began picking the outcomes of football games.

Quite frankly, this season has been so difficult to peg and last week was a prime example of that.

Surprises upon surprises.

Let's see if I can bounce back this week.

On to the picks:

The injury woes continue for the Golden Tornado, who have only 25 healthy players.Butler has shown flashes, but because of the numbers and lack of experience, can't sustain the positives for an entire game. Thus ...Hempfield 34-11.

The Raiders are coming off a disappointing loss to Woodland Hills last week. The Rams are not a team you want to play to bounce back from something like that. Pine-Richland 37-16.Kiski Area at Mars — The Planets are coming off their own disappointing loss.It won't be two tough defeats in a row. Mars will bounce back in a big way. Mars 33-12.Knoch at Trinity — The script has switched this season on the Knights. The last couple of seasons, it's been a slow start and a fast finish. This season it's been a fast start and a three-game losing streak.Knoch is still hanging on by a thread for a playoff spot, but the Knights just want a non-conference win this week.Knoch 31-13.

The Yellowjackets lost by a point to Burrell and were eliminated from the playoff mix.Now they are playing for pride. Freeport 27-13.North Catholic at Yough — The Trojans have been an up-and-down team this season.Last week, they were up.This time, they will be up again.North Catholic 44-3.

The Gremlins are playing well right now, taking powerful Ridgway to the brink last week before falling.Bradford is struggling mightily. Not much doubt about the outcome of this one.Karns City 42-12.

The Warriors unleash some of their offensive weapons this week against the overmatched Chucks.Moniteau 38-11.

The Rockets welcome the undefeated Oilers to town.Slippery Rock was in the game against Hickory late until the Hornets scored the last 14 points. The Rockets have a way of bouncing back.Slippery Rock 25-24.

The Falcon Knights flexed their muscles against Cameron County last week in a 52-0 rout.Redbank is a tough opponent on the road, but there's just something about this Union/A-C Valley team.Union/A-C Valley 21-20.

The Knights are coming off their first win of the season, a 14-0 blanking of Valley.Steel Valley can be had this week by Summit Academy, which has shown signs of improvement. But ...Steel Valley 25-12.Scoop is hoping to bounce back from one of his worst weeks as a prognosticator.
