Mars clarifies stadium policy

ADAMS TWP — Responding to questions from Mars Area band parents Tuesday night, Superintendent Wesley Shipley clarified a new stadium policy during football games.

Parents of some band members said their children were told at last week’s game they could not carry in their coats.

“The members of the band and the cheerleading squad are there with supervision,” Shipley said. “They are allowed to bring their bags because they are bringing in several things with them.”

Specifically, members of the band and cheerleaders are allowed to have coats, blankets, instruments and carriers associated with their performance at athletic events.

According to the district website, student spectators are not permitted to enter the stadium with large bags, backpacks or containers holding liquids. Children in kindergarten thorough sixth grade need to be accompanied by a guardian.

The policy went into effect Sept. 27.
