Moniteau grinds out 14-7 home victory

Warriors rush for 209 yards in home win over Brockway

J.D. Dessicino rushed for 103 yards as the Moniteau football team used a punishing ground game to grind out a 14-7 home win against Brockway.

Moniteau got a touchdown run by Mason Mershimer and a 30-yard touchdown pass from David Stamm to A.J. McElravy.

The Warriors (2-5) rushed for 209 yards in the win.

Mershimer gained 43 yards on 13 carries and fullback Nick Martino accounted for 39 yards on 10 attempts.

Moniteau held Brockway to 68 yards rushing and picked off quarterback Jonathan Wood once.

Dessicino's 100-yard game was his third in a row.

North Catholic 12, Elizabeth Forward 7 — Zack Rocco threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Trojans' defense did the rest in this key Big East Conference win.

North Catholic led 6-0 at the half and went up 12-0 when Rocco found Nick Maher for a score.

Elizabeth Forward (4-2, 3-2) made things interesting with an 87-yard TD pass in the third quarter, but North Catholic (5-1, 5-0) was able to hold on for the victory.

Keystone 44, Union/A-C Valley 14 — The Falcon Knights (5-2) had their five-game winning streak snapped as Keystone (6-1() jumped out to a quick 30-0 lead.

Luke Bowser threw for 51 yards and a touchdown in a losing cause. Kylar Culbertson rushed for 53 yards and had 12 tackles defensively.

Shady Side Academy 28, Summit Academy 20 — The Knights were competitive, but slipped to 0-7 on the season.

Girls Soccer

Sidney Shemanski scored four goals Thursday as Freeport shut out Indiana, 7-0. Emma Check added two goals and Akina Boynton one.

Maddy Zarichnak made five saves in goal. Boynton, Ella Kristofik, Hannah Slaughenhopt, Kylie Hoffman and Crystal Zembrzuski all contributed assists.

Freeport (10-2) plays at Valley Saturday.
