KC, Kane meet in key KSAC game Friday

Nothing new for Karns City.

The Gremlins (4-2) travel to Kane (5-1) for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday in yet another critical KSAC large-school division contest. KC has taken on Clarion, rival Moniteau, Brookville and Saint Marys over the past four weeks.

“They're all big,” Karns City coach Joe Sherwin said. “It will be interesting to see how these standings look when everything is all said and done.”

The Gremlins have never lost to the Wolves, scoring a 43-7 win over Kane last year. The previous four meetings between the teams have been in the District 9 playoffs.

Both teams present versatile attacks in different ways.

Karns City has had three players — quarterback Anthony Kamenski, running back Hunter Rowe and fullback Luke Garing — have 100-yard rushing games this season. Kamenski has run for 691 yards, Rowe for 385, combining for 11 TDs.

Kaden Scherer has made big plays in the passing game this year, scoring 42 points to rank among the county leaders.

“I'm glad to see us getting production from different people in the running game,” Sherwin said. “That's the way we like to play football.”

Zuke Smith has thrown for 807 yards, 10 touchdowns and only four interceptions for Kane. Four receivers have between eight and 10 receptions. Jake Alcorn has rushed for 374 yards and five TDs, Teddy Race for 385 yards and four scores.

“No. 11 (Alcorn) looks to be their most dangerous player,” Sherwin said. “He returns punts and kickoffs, catches the ball and runs with the ball.

“I've been told that Teddy Race has the most tackles of any player in Pennsylvania. He's all over the field for them.”

Alcorn has caught eight passes for a team-leading 204 yards. Race has 84 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 7.5 quarterback sacks.
