The Butler County Symphony Orchestra begins its 2019-20 season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with “Folklore and Fairy Tales” in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

Selections are slated to include Tchaikovsky's “Sleeping Beauty Suite,” as well as Prokofiev's “Cinderella Suite No. 1.”

Pianist Orion Weiss will perform the “Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3.”

The concert is the first of six that showcase music from all periods, performed under the direction of conductor Matthew Kraemer.

Johnny Angel and the Halos, Pittsburgh oldies band, celebrating its 53rd anniversary, will perform a dinner show Oct. 12 at Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave., Lyndora.Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and the music starting at 8 p.m.Tickets are $35. ADAMS TWP — Opus I Music Society will host “History of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra,” presented by Kathy Csellar, on Oct. 14 in the music room at LifePointe Alliance Church, Route 228.Refreshments start at 9:30 a.m. with the free program beginning at 10 a.m.Opus I is a member of the Pennsylvania and National Federations of Music Clubs.

BRADY TWP — “Spooky Stories” will be told at 6:30 p.m. and then again at 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Old Stone House at the intersection of Routes 8, 528 and 173, just south of Slippery Rock.Tickets are needed and cost $7; children 5 and younger are admitted free.
