GOP chairman's leadership questioned

Al Lindsay should have stayed on the sidelines. Instead, he’s shown me and the Republicans of Butler County that he’s willing to play his card as the GOP County chairman to serve the few instead of building and growing the party.

In our Republican dominated county, the May primary was hotly contested and eroded the party internally.

Infighting is no secret in GOP politics — but in a well-run political organization, internal battles are cyclical to primaries. Leadership should be encouraging party unity, registering voters, raising money, and increasing the vote margins for GOP candidates that count on us to turn out the vote.

After a four-way brutally divisive election for judge, the priority should be to revitalize the party and welcome new members — especially with the unprecedented growth our county has experienced in the last 10 years.

Instead of Lindsay trying to heal the party to move into the general, he took decisive action to divide the party further. He’s using his platform to encourage Gov. Wolf to appoint “Wink” Robinson as judge before the general election in November — proving further that his interests lie with a few in the county seat.

Shouldn’t we ask ourselves what kind of power grab are these courthouse insiders after? Why do the Republicans of Butler County continue to put up with this kind of leadership?
