Tough week on the grid

It was a bad week for Scoop.

The ol’ Scoopster went 6-4 and now has 12 losses already this season.

I lost just 14 all of 2018.

I better get it in gear or my goose may be cooked.

On to the picks:

Butler at Seneca Valley — The traveling trophy hasn’t traveled very often lately.

The Raiders are scuffling a bit and the Golden Tornado are playing better.

Still, Seneca Valley keeps the trophy where it is. Seneca Valley 35-14.

Mars at Armstrong — The Planets have been turning the ball over at an alarming rate and are 2-2.

I can’t see Mars struggling again at Armstrong. Mars 39-14.

Knoch at Ambridge — The Knights are the lone undefeated team in the Butler County area and they travel to Ambridge to play a Bridgers’ team that is struggling to say the least.

Look for Knoch to roll. Knoch 44-6.

Uniontown at Freeport — The Yellowjackets are 0-3 for the second consecutive season and are banged up.

Doesn’t matter. Uniontown is the perfect fodder. Freeport 45-8.

Derry at North Catholic — The Trojans (the North Catholic version) are another team that has been up and down.

They’ll be up this week in a revenge battle against Derry, which beat North Catholic twice last season. North Catholic 22-16.

Moniteau at Bradford — Another banged-up, winless team, the Warriors will get some of their warriors back in the coming weeks.

They’ll get a much-needed victory this week. Moniteau 36-6.

Brookville at Karns City — One of the marquee matchups of the week, the Gremlins host the Raiders in a big District 9 matchup.

Brookville is as pass-happy as always, even though it may be without starting quarterback Jack Krug.

Meanwhile, Karns City is back to being the grind-it-out Karns City.

The Gremlins will keep this one close, but .... Brookville 23-22.

Slippery Rock at Grove City — The names change, but the outcome remains the same.

The Eagles replace graduated stars with new ones and keep on rolling.

Slippery Rock moved the ball against Sharon last week, but had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. Grove City’s offense gets a lot of the accolades, but its defense is always staunch. Grove City 24-18.

Union/A-C Valley at Elk County Catholic — One of the surprise teams so far, the Falcon Knights are 3-1 and have played well through the first part of the season.

But U/A-C has a long road trip against a game ECC team. Elk County Catholic 22-17.

Summit Academy at East Allegheny — It’s hard to tell just what Summit Academy is after playing four very tough opponents in the first four weeks.

East Allegheny isn’t in that class, so we may finally see just what the Knights have. East Allegheny 31-14.

Scoop is 28-12 this season.
