Middlesex Crossing fourth phase OK'd

MIDDLESEX TWP — Almost three dozen houses are coming to the intersection of Routes 8 and 228 after the township board of supervisors Wednesday night approved a new phase of the Middlesex Crossing development.

The board unanimously approved the fourth phase of the development, which was unchanged from the master plan submitted by the developer, NWPA Property Development. There will be 33 single-family homes constructed during this phase.

No representatives from the developer were present, and supervisors did not discuss the motion prior to voting.

Middlesex approved the third phase of the development in July, which included 21 single-family homes and 24 townhouses. The development includes a planned 148 residential units on 93 acres.

During the period for public comment, several residents raised concerns about speeding on several roads, including Old Route 8 and Forsythe Road.David McMaster, who lives on Forsythe, said he erected his own sign that uses radar to alert oncoming drivers in both directions if they are traveling too fast. The speed limit on Forsythe is 25 mph, but McMaster says he frequently sees drivers exceeding 40 mph.“You've got to do something,” he said. “That's why I put the sign up. That's why I put the 'watch children' sign up.”Police Sgt. Randy Davison said he doesn't recommend following McMaster's methods — the Forsythe resident said he stops drivers who are speeding. The board agreed there was a problem, but said it had a limited ability to correct the issue.
