'Folklore and Fairy Tales'

Renowned pianist Orion Weiss will be featured in the Butler County Symphony Orchestra's season opening concert Oct. 5.
Pianist to perform with Butler symphony

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra season begins Oct. 5 with “Folklore and Fairy Tales.”

The concert will feature renowned pianist Orion Weiss performing the “Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3.”

Selections will include “Sleeping Beauty Suite” by Tchaikovsky, as well as the “Cinderella Suite No. 1” by Prokofiev.

Music director and principal conductor Matthew Kraemer begins his eighth season with BCSO.

Other upcoming concerts will feature:

“Disney in Concert Around the World,” Nov. 2

“Holiday Traditions,” Dec. 7

“Beethoven at 250,” Feb. 1

“Arthur Fiedler's Pops,” March 7

“Mahler's Titan,” April 11.

Kraemer said in a news release: “The Butler County Symphony is comprised of many of the finest professional musicians in Western Pennsylvania.“For over 75 years, the orchestra has enriched and entertained audiences throughout the county, enhancing the quality of life in this great community. The virtuosity and versatility of our musicians allow us to perform at an incredibly high level, whether performing a Brahms symphony, a John Williams film score, Broadway's greatest hits, or “Peter and the Wolf” for hundreds of schoolchildren.”The Butler County Symphony Association is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors. Officers are president, Patricia Stagno; vice president, Sue Morrow; secretary, Cathy Bronder; and treasurer, Chuck Davey.Concerts are held in the Butler Intermediate High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.Season tickets, individual concert tickets and group rates are available.Call 724-283-1402 or visit ButlerSymphony.org.

There will be a Symphony Honorees dinner at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at Butler Country Club in Penn Township.The BCSO will be recognizing the 2019 inductees: Virginia Netchi, Harry Savisky and Shirley Mould.The reception will feature hors d'oeuvres, live entertainment and a cash bar.Kraemer will attend.Tickets are available.

The symphony's lunchtime concerts continue through Sept. 27 at the BCSO office, 259 S. Main St.The music starts at noon Fridays, and the scheduled performance for this Friday will feature Jessica Sanzotti and MTG Players with a preview of the fall production of “Mama, Mia.”Admission to the lunchtime concerts is free.
