Harmony Museum, 218 Mercer St., Harmony, tours include the 1809 main museum building and wine cellar and a neighboring early 19th century house, both built by the communal Harmony Society, and a Mennonite log house, offered from 1 to 4 p.m. daily, except when the museum is closed Mondays and major holidays. Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, 401 Meadowcroft Road, Avella, Washington County, part of the Smithsonian-affiliated Senator John Heinz History Center museum system, plans a Frontier Heritage Weekend for Sept. 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Visitors can get an up-close look at the daily lives of 18th-century frontier tradesmen and discover the skills necessary to survive in the Western Pennsylvania wilderness.Demonstrations will include black powder firearms, carpentry, open-hearth cooking and land surveying techniques. Activities are included with regular Meadowcroft admission: $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens, and $7 for students and children ages 6 to 17. Children’s Museum, 10 Children’s Way, Allegheny Square, has opened the 13th annual “Tough Art” exhibition. “XOXO: An Exhibit About Love and Forgiveness” opens Sept. 28. The Children’s Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except holidays. Admission will be free on Sept. 29. Regular admission is $18 for adults and $16 for children ages 2 to 18 and senior citizens.
