Rob Freyvogel is in a hospital after crashing his land speed racer in Utah on Sunday.

A local businessman and speed enthusiast crashed his land speed racer and suffered serious injuries Sunday while racing at the World of Speed event at the Bonneville Salt Flats near the Utah-Nevada border, according to his family.

Rob Freyvogel, founder and president of Carbinite Metal Coatings in Renfrew, Penn Township, crashed his car at a high speed, according to a post on the Facebook page of his company's race team, Carbinite LSR.

The post was attributed to his wife, Sue Freyvogel.

Freyvogel is in serious condition, according to a Facebook post by his family.

“I don't know why this happened this way, or what the outcome will be,” the post said. “Please continue to pray and we will update when possible.”

The Sacramento (Calif.) Bee reported Freyvogel was traveling about 350 MPH when the crash occurred on the Salt Flats Race Track. According to the newspaper, the track is popular with high-speed racing teams, and numerous land-speed records have been set there.
