I was amused to read in the Butler Eagle (Sept. 10, 2019 ; “Butler Revises Calendar After School Delay”) that the school board has decided to have students make up one of the days they missed at the beginning of the school year by NOT attending classes on Veterans Day (Nov. 11). Instead, Nov. 11 will be declared an Act-80 Day and only the teachers need to attend.

Strange, but I would have thought that students would make up a missed day of school by ATTENDING school on a different day.

Much like “Flexible Instructional Days”, which count as full school days while students study independently at home during snow days, this revised plan seems like nothing more than the lessening of standards for the sake of convenience.

Glad my school property tax dollars are being spent so wisely.
