Greb wins section title

Beats teammate to claim crown

Knoch junior Laura Greb won the Section 3-AA girls tennis singles title with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of teammate Brooke Bauer Thursday at Valley High School.

Greb was competing in the section final for the third straight year and has now won the crown two straight years. She is two-time defending WPIAL champion.

Both Greb and Bauer advance to next week's WPIAL tournament.

Mars junior Isabella Gaydosh qualified for the WPIAL Class AAA tournament by placing third in Section 2 at North Allegheny High School.

Gaydosh defeated Moon's Amanda Koren 6-4, 6-2 in the third-place match.

The Planets' star had reached the semifinals before falling to North Allegheny's Ella Sinciline 6-1, 6-0.

Butler earned a 214-240 win over North Hills at Shannopin Country Club.The Golden Tornado received a 38 from Brayden Setnar.Butler (214): Brayden Setnar 38, Colin Patterson 41, Parker Worsley 44North Hills (240): Tyler Manfred 43, Logan Marshalek 46, Hannah Scuilli 47Moniteau had three golfers score 43 or lower while placing third at a KSAC Mega Match at Clarion Oaks.Ethan McDeavitt shot a 42 and Nate Tack and Jacob Felsing both had a 43 for the Warriors, who totaled 232 strokes. Clarion won the event with 220 strokes.Derek Christy and Gage Neal both contributed a 52 to the Warriors' cause.Broc Weigle also carded a 52 to lead Union/A-C Valley. Alex Olczak had a 55 for Karns City.Slippery Rock tallied 333 strokes to place second out of seven teams at a District 10, Region 2 golf match at Oak Tree Golf Course.Jacob Wolak's 81 paced the Rockets.Grove City carded a 321 to place first. McKenna Martin's hat trick sparked Karns City to a 6-0 blanking of Redbank Valley.Lex Moore, Brooke Stahlman and Abby Callihan all scored one goal for the Gremlins (4-0).Ally Fennell, Cameron Roofner, Paige Dodd, Moore and Martin each contributed an assist.Freeport 4, Shaler 1 — The Yellowjackets jumped to 4-0 overall thanks to two goals from Aleah Parison and one apiece from Sidney Shemanski and Emma Check.Shemanski (2) and Check had the assists.

Hunter Hardin found the net four times and Isaac Wetzel three times as Freeport clobbered Derry, 11-1.Garret Risch and Danny Heider both tallied their first varsity goal in the win.Freeport improved to 3-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in section play.Mars 6, North Hills 0 — Dane Beller scored three goals while Austin Rocke, Steven Papik and Easton Carter each tallied one goal.Assists went to Nabil Labou, Trent Wick and Gabe Singh.Mitchell Shultz recorded his first shutout of the season for the Planets, who moved to 4-0 in section play.Karns City 5, Redbank Valley 2 — The Gremlins received a pair of goals and an assist from both Dakota King and Nate Rondinelli.Owen Collwell added a goal and an assist.Nate Boyden had five saves for the Gremlins (5-0).Butler 3, North Allegheny 2 — Evan Fetter scored the game-winner with two minutes left in the game.Tyler Gillis and Luke Shook scored the first two goals for Butler off assists from Landon Mohney and Jack Beneigh, respectively.Seneca Valley 3, Fox Chapel 0 — Adam Davies earned the shutout at home and Luke Rupert scored all three goals for SV.Slippery Rock 7, Meadville 0 — Ryan Davey scored a pair of goals to lead an offensive onslaught for the Rockets (1-3).Duncan McCoy earned the shutout in goal.

Knoch rebounded from an early deficit to defeat Mars, 3-1.Kennedy Christy dropped 13 kills, Skylar Burkett 10 kills and Kenzie Kerkan had 19 digs for the Knights (5-0, 4-0).Knoch won the match by scores of 24-26, 25-18, 25-9 and 25-17.A-C Valley 3, Karns City 0 — Emily Wetzel had 18 assists and 16 points as the Falcons swept Karns City 25-14, 25-17, 25-12.Tarra Stefanacci chipped in 19 digs and eight assists and Meah Ielase had nine kills for A-C Valley (4-0).Rozina McCanna led KC with four kills, two aces and one block.Freeport 3, East Allegheny 0 — Mackensey Jack had 27 service points, six aces and six digs as the Yellowjackets rolled, 25-2, 25-8, 25-7.Isabella Russo had nine kills, Lauren Lampus six kills, Tori Radvan six kills and eight points and Maddie Clark 22 assists for Freeport (4-0, 3-0).North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — Ava Carney had 10 kills and 15 digs as the Golden Tornado fell 25-13, 25-12, 25-18.Gabby Lucas pitched in 13 digs for Butler (0-4).Conneaut 3, Slippery Rock 0 — Lexis Prementine had six kills and 16 digs in the Rockets’ 27-25, 25-13, 25-18 loss.Taylor Balint also contributed 16 digs for Slippery Rock.
