The Butler County Symphony Association will begin its 2019-20 season Oct. 5 with “Folklore and Fairy Tales.”

Selections will include the “Sleeping Beauty Suite” of Tchaikovsky, as well as the “Cinderella Suite No. 1” by Prokofiev.

Pianist Orion Weiss will perform the “Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3.”

The concert is the first of six that showcase music from all periods, performed by the Butler County Symphony Orchestra, directed and conducted by Matthew Kraemer.

Concerts take place in the Butler Intermediate High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

MUDDY CREEK TWP — The Nautical Nature tour boat has scheduled 1.5 hour cruises on Lake Arthur every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 26.The 37-passenger, enclosed pontoon boat takes off at 1 and 3 p.m. from the McDanel's Launch on the North Shore.Tickets are available at the Owlet Gift shop. This year's Nature and Wildlife Show — Water Theme at the Butler Art Center will open with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The annual exhibit will run through Oct. 5.The Art Center will be showcasing member artwork during the Butler Fall Festival on Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those members wishing to participate should contact the Art Center by Sept. 24. Artwork can be dropped off Sept. 25 to 27.Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays, except holidays. Admission is free. FREEPORT — September by the River festivities in Freeport are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Freeport Riverside Park, Riverside Drive.A library sale is planned for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and other activities that day will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.Activities Sunday will run from noon to 4:45 p.m.Food, crafters, vendors, live music, performers, and kid's activities will be featured.

FRANKLIN TWP, Beaver County — The Red Barn Players will close their 65th season of summer theater with the Neil Simon comedy “The Sunshine Boys” starting Friday.The play centers on Willie Clark and Al Lewis, the once top-billed vaudeville act of “Lewis and Clark” for more than 40 years.The cast includes Don Pepe of Harmony and Mary Cameron of Zelienople.The show runs Friday and Saturday and Sept. 19-21 and 26-28 at the Red Barn Theatre, 1279 Route 288.Curtain is at 8 p.m. and tickets, which are $13, are available at www.redbarnplayers.com.

BUTLER TWP — Tours of Preston Park, including the residence and the grounds, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 18, Oct. 19 and Nov. 30.Admission is free, but registration is required and spaces are limited. A Harvest Moon Festival planned for Sept. 22 will feature rat-pack style performer Michael Carluccio.The event is a black tie optional fundraiser for the Maridon Museum.It will take place from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Butler Country Club in Penn Township.
