Morning accident slows traffic on Route 8

No one was injured this morning when a sport utility vehicle rear-ended a car that had broken down in the right lane on Route 8 south in front of Baglier Buick in Butler Township.

The crash briefly slowed southbound traffic until both badly damaged vehicles were removed.

David Luchkiw, 22, of Lyndora, who was driving the car, a Chevrolet Impala, was headed to work at Ibis Tek in Middlesex Township when the battery died at a traffic light, he said. He got out of the vehicle and got on his cell phone.

"I was calling for a tow truck when it happened," he said.

Butler Township Police said the other driver was also in the right, southbound lane and was unable to avoid the car. Officers did not immediately release his name. They said drugs or alcohol was not a factor, and that driver was not on a phone.
