The Armco Credit Union recently awarded $10,000 in scholarships to 20 graduating high school seniors.

The students were selected from 54 qualified applicants based on academic and extracurricular achievement. Students attending college as well as vocational schools were eligible.

This is the second year the credit union has provided scholarships for higher education.

The recipients and their guests met for an award ceremony luncheon, and students were presented with a certificate by Ralph Boosel, president of the Armco Credit Union board of directors.

In his remarks to the students, Boosel said the scholarships are a way of giving back to the community.

“We’re certainly proud of all the students’ accomplishments and we’re already looking forward to continuing the program next year,” he said.

“What these young people are going to be able to give back to the community is so much farther reaching than what we’ve been able to give to them, but we’re so glad to be a part of their college education,” added John Gibson, a member of the board of directors.
