PETROLIA — The rodeo continues through Saturday at the North Washington Rodeo Arena, 2225 Oneida Valley Road.

Events include bareback bronc riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, cowgirl's barrel racing, cowgirl's breakaway roping, team roping and bull riding.

Tickets are $16 for adults and $7 for children ages 4 to 12.

The rodeo is a fundraising event for the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department.

The Butler County Symphony Association is accepting public nominations for its second annual “Symphony Honorees” awards.Nominations can be made for individuals, living or deceased, and groups, past or present.Send nominee names, along with a brief summary recommendation, to the Butler Symphony Office, c/o Judith Wadding, 259 S. Main St., Butler, PA 16001.Nominations must be received by Aug. 30.The new group of Symphony Honorees will be celebrated at a reception on Oct. 3 at the Butler Country Club.

The newly-expanded Butler County Beer Circuit, a self-guided tour of local brew pubs, encourages visitors to experience a variety of breweries by filling up their “Passport to Hoppiness” and collecting a commemorative prize upon completion.Those participating take their cards to the brew pubs listed, order a pint or a flight and receive a stamp at each site. Once the card is complete, participants can take it to the tourism bureau to claim a specialty mug and more for completing the circuit. The bureau's office is at 310 E. PITTSBURGH — Carnegie Science Center's H2Oh! GROVE CITY — Grove City College is among the sponsors of the next Veritas Film Festival, set for April 24 to 30, at the Guthrie Theatre in downtown Grove City and on the college campus.The vision of the seven-day cinematic showcase is to celebrate “truth and beauty through film,” according to organizer and festival director Spencer Folmar, 2010 GCC graduate.The festival is open to any and all filmmakers and is accepting entries in seven categories.The college is sponsoring the festival with Olde Town Grove City, the borough's downtown action association, and Hard Faith Films, a production company headed by Folmar.Deadlines to enter work in the festival are: regular deadline, Jan. 1; late deadline, Feb. 1; extended deadline, March 1.For more information, visit www.veritasfest.org.

PITTSBURGH — A grey crowned-crane that hatched July 27 at the National Aviary has made its public debut.The fluffy chick stretches its long legs during daily walks in the Rose Garden.Grey crowned-cranes are one of the most recognizable crane species, noted for their elaborate golden-yellow plumage resembling a crown on their heads.The crane chick is being hand-raised by experts at the National Aviary, where it will live behind the scenes and become an educational ambassador for its species, which is endangered.For more information, visit www.aviary.org.
