Sunday concert slated in Foxburg

The band Marquis66 will entertain audience members with everything from Bach to rock on Sunday at Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts in Foxburg.

FOXBURG — Everything from Bach to rock, that's what the band Marquis66 will be playing Sunday at Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts, according to John Soroka, one of the organizers. And dancing is encouraged.

The music begins at 6 p.m., rain or shine. Gates open at 5 p.m. at RiverStone Farm, 352 Foxview Road.

“Each summer we do it ... We do it along very popular lines,” Soroka said.

Marquis 66 plays classics from the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s and beyond, said Soroka.

“In the late '60s, a group of young men got together to play the music of their time,” he said. “They are Baby Boomers and got away from the group for a while, then two of the original members gathered three more folks and at first they were Marquis and now they're Marquis 66 out of Columbus, Ohio.”

The original band formed in 1964 and was made up of four high school boys — Michael Kinnett, Greg Jones, Steve Jones and Rod Share — according to a news release.

The new version called Marquis66 was founded in August 2002 when two members of the original group decided to reform the band, the release said, and new members were added so they could help audiences relive the memories of their early years.

Audience members can count on music from the Beatles to Jefferson Airplane during the 2½-hour show.

“Seating is on the lawn, so if anyone wants to get up and dance, go to it,” Soroka said.

Those attending are to take their own lawn seating and are encouraged to take a picnic.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for students and free for children younger than 6. Tickets are available at www.alleghenyriverstone.org or by calling 724-659-3153.

Tickets can also be purchased at the gate.
