A free Outdoor Discovery series at Alameda Park, conducted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, will feature Playthings Etc. at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in theOddfellows Shelter. Programs run Thursdays through Aug. 15. Call Butler County Parks and Recreation at 724-284-5383.

Moraine State Park will be the site of a Muddy Creek Oil Well Living History program from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the site on Park Road. A Watercolor Wednesdays session will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday from the Owlet Gift Shop at McDanel's Launch on the North Shore; make a reservation by calling 724-368-9185.

Star Parties, sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, will begin about 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, weather permitting, at the Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park, near the village of Russellton, Frazer Township, Allegheny County. Call 724-224-2510.
