Wymer finishes 2nd in golf event

PITTSBURGH — Butler Country Club member Jane Wymer placed second at the 2019 Women's Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania Championship, which concluded Friday at Edgewood Country Club.

Wymer shot 235 in the three-day event. Ligonier Country Club's Katie Miller ran away from the field, carding a 6-under score of 210.

Miller managed par in the first round, then 3-under in the second and third rounds, a women's course record.

Wymer was paired with Miller on Thursday.

“Katie is just an amazing, good golfer,” Wymer said. “She hits a long ball and the putts were falling for her. On the back nine specifically, she was getting close to the pin and knocking them down.”

Edgewood hosted the championship for the first time since 2002.

“It's a very hilly, beautiful course,” said Wymer, who has been runner-up in the event several times. “It was super-fun and I'm just pleased I was able to hang in there and get second place.”

Treesdale Golf and Country Club's Laura Hilger placed third, one stroke behind Wymer.

Butler Country Club's Sue Colton won the second flight. Her score was converted to 29 points using the Stableford Scoring System.
