Computer glitch curtails services at Butler County libraries

Problem continues for second day

UPDATE: 5:22 p.m. 7/18/2019A computer problem that reduced patron services continued for a second day Thursday at the 10 libraries that make up the Butler County Federated Library System. The unspecified problem meant library patrons couldn’t use the public computers, the library WiFi or hold books through the library catalog throughout the system’s libraries. But people could still check out and return books and other materials.“We have a spreadsheet tracking all the check-ins and checkouts, and we will update the system when it is back online,” said Peter Bess, assistant director of the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St.A spokeswoman for the Zelienople Area Public Library, 227 S. High St., said the computer problem wasn’t expected to affect the library’s annual book sale. The library won’t be able to process book sale purchases made with a credit or debit card, but will still accept cash and checks. The book sale runs through Saturday.Butler’s Bess said people should check the library Facebook page, butlerareapubliclibrary or its webpage to see if computer service is restored.
