LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

The Preamble of our Constitution begins: “We the people of the United States ... ”

The word “we” means a lot when comparing socialism to capitalism. Capitalism encourages freedom for everyone of us citizens to achieve to the best of our abilities. Whereas socialism changes the “we” to “me.” The “me” belongs to the few ruling elites who proclaim they know what is best for us all, regardless of our individual abilities.

These ”me elites” will promise the sky to gain power. The “me elites” limit us in our own road to self-promotion and self-achievements.

We don't want to accept free handouts, only to give back our God-given freedom to make choices in our own lives.

When you dedicate yourself to something, open your mind to different possibilities and focus on what you can do instead of what you can’t do, you really can go places in this world. What a positive quote this is, and what an inspiration the speaker is for you see, he was born with no limbs at all, no arms or legs. But against all odds, he attained his desire. His name is Rob Mendez and he is the head coach of the junior varsity football team at Prospect Junior High near San Jose, Calif. At the ESPY Awards, he was awarded the Jimmy V award for perseverance. Look him up on Google or YouTube and listen to his acceptance speech. It’s awesome. The purpose of this letter is to encourage every young person out there. If you have a dream, pursue it. Never say: I can’t do it. Never let anyone tell you that. Be determined, persevere, meet your goals. When you get discouraged, remember Rob, no arms or legs. When someone makes fun of you, think of Rob. If you failed the first time, think of Rob. It doesn’t matter about any of the groups that politically correct people lump you into, if you have the desire and ability to work hard, you can achieve your dreams. In spite of his physical situation, Rob has a great faith in Jesus. The combination of faith, determination, courage, perseverance and encouragement make all the difference in life. So be inspired today, believe in yourself, and be all you can be.It’s your choice. Choose wisely.Donna Stover Cabot
