County woman found with loaded gun at Pittsburgh International Airport

A Butler County woman was stopped Wednesday with a loaded handgun in a carry-on bag at Pittsburgh International Airport, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

The woman, who lives in Petrolia and has not been identified, was stopped at the checkpoint carrying a loaded 9 mm handgun. The gun was loaded with six bullets, including one round in the chamber, according to the TSA.

The incident marked the 17th gun found at the checkpoint so far this calendar year. In 2018, TSA officers found 34 firearms at the checkpoint.

TSA contacted Allegheny County Police who responded, confiscated the firearm and detained the woman for questioning.

Allegheny County Police Inspector Bill Palmer said no state charges will be filed and the case is still being reviewed for possible federal criminal and civil violations. He said police are not identifying the woman because no charges have been filed.
