ZELIENOPLE — Summer reading is in full swing at the Zelienople Area Public Library, 227 S. High St.

This year's Summer Quest theme is “A Universe of Stories” celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. There are space and STEM activities for infants through adults.

Children's events include Space Camp on July 13 for ages 4 to 12 and “Rockets” presented by the Carnegie Science Center on July 29.

July 17 will see the start of the Make a Difference Club for third- to sixth-graders who will tackle local environmental and sustainability issues in the community. For dates and times, check at the library or on its Facebook page or website, www.zelienoplelibrary.org. The program runs through Aug. 8.

The library's annual used book sale will be during Zelienople's Horse Trading Days Festival starting with a preview sale from 5 to 7 p.m. July 17.

Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 18; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 19 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 20.

BRADY TWP — Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, offers the following programs in July:9 a.m. to noon July 13, Wildflower ID workshop.Join Jennings' staff to gain more appreciation for the summertime blooms and learn how to identify wildflowers. This in-depth workshop, for ages 16 and older, will reveal the meaning of botanical terms while participants dissect flowers.This is a free workshop, however registration in advance is required no later than Wednesday by visiting the online calendar of events at http://events.dcnr.pa.gov or by calling the center at 724-794-6011.9 a.m. to noon July 30, “Silver Sciences: Ecosystem Exploration: Wetland versus Stream.”This is a new series of programs designed for active senior citizens. The second in this series investigates two distinct ecosystems at Jennings, a wetland and the stream.Registration is required for this free program. MIDDLESEX TWP — The Lighthouse Foundation will offer an 8- week Excel class from 1 to 3 p.m. starting Thursday at the Lighthouse, 116 Browns Hill Road.The course is split into two parts: basic running July 11 to Aug. 4 and printing formulas and functions running Aug. 8 to Aug. 29.Registration is required, and space is limited. To reserve a spot, call the Lighthouse at 724-586-5554.Notices of local upcoming news should be received by the Community Department one week in advance of the event.
