Knock, knock. Who's there? A baby bear!

The Malloy family in Woodbury Estates in Butler Township spotted a bear cub on their front porch through a security camera Thursday morning.

BUTLER TWP — Door-to-door solicitors are getting wild.

A bear cub came knocking on the front porch of a family who lives near the Butler High School campus in the Woodbury Estates neighborhood around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Jennifer Malloy said the family's barking dogs clued them in to their furry visitor.

“Normally, they're barking for no particular reason, but today they had a pretty good reason,” Malloy said.

They logged onto their home security camera software to check out their visitor.

The animal can be seen in their footage sniffing around before reaching up to touch the door.

“It put its little paws up and looked in the window,” Malloy said.

Their neighborhood has wildlife, but bears are new, she said. It's a mostly residential area.

The family said they had no food or garbage in the area that would've inspired the visit.

Malloy said the sighting scared her a little. It didn't have the same effect on her husband, Scott.

“He thought it was the best thing since anything,” she said. “My husband thought it was the coolest thing ever.”

When called with a bear sighting, Butler County's emergency dispatch center contacts the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Northwest Region.

Residents can dial 911 to report bear sightings or directly contact the Northwest Region office at 814-432-3187.
