Construction work to close North Boundry for the weekend

North Boundary Road in Cranberry Township is tentatively scheduled to be closed this weekend as work continues on a bridge replacement project on Interstate 79.

CRANBERRY TWP — North Boundary Road in the township is expected to be closed this weekend to allow for the installation of a temporary bridge on Interstate 79.

According to information from the township, the road between Route 19 and Marshall Road is tentatively scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.

The closure coincides with a project to replace two bridges carrying Interstate 79 over North Boundary Road near mile marker 80. Temporary bridges will be put in place to allow for two lanes of traffic to continue to travel in both directions during the closure and replacement of the existing bridges.

During the closure, a detour to the eastern portion of North Boundary Road will be in place via Marshall and Rowan roads. This includes access to the Community Waterpark.

During the closure, the detour to the eastern portion of North Boundary Road, including the township water park, will be in place via Marshall and Rowan roads.

The $14.6 million project was bid earlier this year, with Golden Triangle Construction of Imperial handling the work. In addition to the temporary bridges, the project includes approach work, drainage, guide rail, lighting and other miscellaneous construction.

According to PennDOT, the design calls for the southbound structure to be replaced this season, with a shutdown over the winter. Work on the northbound structure will begin during the 2020 construction season.

The scheduled two-year project has an estimated May 21, 2021 completion date, according to PennDOT documents.
