Boy injured when pickup truck crashes into steps

Butler police officer Kory Fleming speaks to Shawn Lacamera of Butler who was driving a pickup truck that crashed into concrete steps on the side of the Cunningham Shanor building on West New Castle Street around 4 p.m. Sunday. The 31-year-old was not hurt but his 8-year-old son, who was riding in the truck, suffered apparent minor injuries. Police said they are investigating.

An 8-year-old boy was hurt about 4 p.m. Sunday when his father lost control of a pickup truck and crashed into concrete steps on the side of the Cunningham Shanor building in Butler, authorities said.

The boy was riding in the truck and suffered apparent minor injuries. A Butler Ambulance Service crew tended to the child.

Butler police later arrested the child's father, 31-year-old Shawn Lacamera of Butler, on a charge of driving under the influence. Lacamera was not injured.

Both the Dodge Ram truck and the steps on the McGeary Street side of the building at 701 W. New Castle St. sustained an unknown amount of damage.

Police immediately after the crash said they were still trying to determine what direction Lacamera was traveling when he pulled onto McGeary Street and hit the steps.

The truck, which narrowly missed hitting the building, had to be towed.

Lacamera was taken to the station for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was above the state's 0.08 percent legal limit.

The Butler Fire Department also assisted police.
